Film Fundraising
Idea Analyst and Associates helps filmmakers apply for fiscal sponsorship and to identify an appropriate fiscal sponsor. Fiscal sponsorship is provided by various non profit organizations. The fiscal sponsor is a 501 c3 organization. Once a film project is approved for fiscal sponsorship they are eligible to apply for funding that they otherwise would not have been able to receive. Fiscal sponsorship allows the filmmaker to receive funding that is available to 501c3 organizations. This process also allows individuals to make contributions to the film project and become eligible a tax deduction for their donation. The filmmaker becomes eligible to apply for grant funding that otherwise would only available to 501c3 organizations. Organizations providing fiscal sponsorship to the film projects they approve many times also provide resources to the filmmaker that are useful. The film project can still become a profitable film project and investors can still invest capital into the project, in most cases once the fiscal sponsor relationship has been terminated. Many times a filmmaker can explore the possibilities for them in terms of funding through fiscal sponsorship and later cease the relationship when ample funding is raised through this method. Many documentary filmmakers are concerned mainly with completely their film to get their message across and have their film reach effective distribution channels, in this case fiscal sponsorship can be a very viable option. It is important to note, if an individual decides to donate money into the project, they cannot turn around and decide to invest in the project at a later date for an expected return.
Once a successful application for fiscal sponsorship is approved, the filmmaker may begin the process of applying for grants and securing additional donations.
